Breadwinner

Carina quit her job today, cutting our yearly income by half. I'm now in the position to be the sole source of income for the four of us, which is a terrifying prospect.

But at the same time, I'm super excited for Carina. She had the twins in high school, and entered the full-time working world shortly after, without any real time for herself. Whereas I had my college years with which to screw around, Carina never enjoyed that. She's very much looking forward to having some time to dedicate to the things about which she's really passionate. She's also looking forward to more quality time with the kids before and after school.

It's now going to be a real challenge for me not to make jokes about her being the stereotypical housewife ...

Ooh, sounds like an exciting time ahead for the two of you. I hope things will go as planned, Scott.

(On another note, did you get email some time ago? If you're interested, I started posting write-ups about my poetry database thingy on Sunday and will add part 3 today.)

Wah! Same thing over here! Anastasia is putting in her notice next week and will be free free by the first of march.

The fund changes do suck royally but beans and rice are cheap and the savings on Doggie Daycare and gas should add up a bit.

Good luck, buddy. Don't let the pressure get to you. And tell Carina I am green with envy. ;-)

I am jealous. Although I merely have the dog at home, and she is pretty stable right now... I would love to not work. I mean it. I have so much I want to do and always feel there isn't enough time to do it.

Skippy, you are a man of action and principle. You and your lovely wife, along witht he kiddies, will be fine. Just no more of those all night benders you're so fond of. ;)

As a short-term housewife, I found jokes and comments to be very hurtful. People out of work tend to get busy with major projects (like I did with securing a mortgage, moving, etc.) and it feels like having a full-time job. The main thing is to appreciate what Carina and other stay-at-home mothers bring to their families' lives. David was grateful for everything I accomplished for us.

Thanks for the positive support, everyone; and especially to Sara. I made my comment half-joking, but your response is very helpful toward reminding me that not working does not necessarily mean lazing about the house eating bon-bons all day!
