Repetition, Repetition, Repetition

Everyone should watch this video. Remember, if you say something long enough and loud enough, people will start to believe it. (via Joi Ito.)

The upcoming debate is always cast in terms of Kerry/Edwards vs Bush/Cheney, but it's important to remember that that's not the whole story. It's Kerry/Edwards vs Bush/Cheney/Ashcroft/Rumsfield/Rice/Rove/Halliburton/etc/etc !

George W. Bush isn't the only person in American politics setting policy -- he's just the most visible. For example, John Ashcroft is busy crafting secret laws, laws you as a citizen can run afoul of but not be told about!

The argument we should be having is not "was the Iraq war justified?" or "does Kerry have more integrity than Bush?" or anything like that. It's "who will surround themselves with people who are genuinely interested in making our lives better?"

To that effect, I've started the following page on my wiki: http://wiki.skippy.net/Kerry. Please contribute links to information about other administration abuses.

And before any comments come in, please don't assume that I think Kerry/Edwards are messiahs descended from on high. I'm sure they'll screw up, and do stuff I disagree with -- they are, after all, politicians. What I've seen from them, though, is more aligned with the things that I think are important, namely better living, and not living in fear.

While I often disagree with your politics, I like your attitude. Most people on both sides of the aisle want the same results but often have different ways of getting there. Name calling and bomb throwing do little to advance political discourse. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your site.

I agree with Matt, you provide a refreshing view of things that serve to remind me that not everyone lives right of center. Thx

I'm torn. I don't like either of the candidates. I feel like the Kerry campaign is being run on a platform of "I'm not Mr. Bush", and that's very unsatisfying, in that it doesn't speak of much long-term vision. However, on the other hand, being Not-Bush may be a full time job, since undoing the rape of our civil liberties may well take a few decades.

In 1796, the government did something stupid (if you haven't read the Alien and Sedition Acts, go do it now. It's your responsibility as a citizen. I'm being perfectly serious. It's 2 pages. Go. Now.) and had the integrity to admit it and undo it. I just don't believe that our government is that sensible and flexible any more. I'm not thrilled with the nation that my daughter will inherit from me. And I am reasonably sure that the results of a presidential election are not going to substantially change this one way or the other.
