I'm pleased to announce the release of subscribe2 version 2.1.5!
This version should correctly work around a subtle bug in the way WordPress handles posts published from drafts, which means that the permalinks in the notification emails should obey your rewrite rules. This fix also ensures that exceprts work properly.
Thanks to Mr. Brown, there's now an Italian translation available! Translations are also available for German, Polish, and Spanish:
http://dev.wp-plugins.org/browser/subscribe2/i18n/
The plugin works great, but seems to break a couple of other things in my blog - specifically:
a) the Category Visibility plugin - plugin still works but management of it under Options displays the subscribe2 options rather than the Category Visibility options, and
b) sometimes when I post, the post doesn't show up in the blog - it's there in post management, it's there on the database, it just won't display on the blog.
Any ideas?
Deb: problem #1 is almost certainly because you're using WordPress version 1.5, and have not fixed bug #902. Rather than fix that bug, I encourage you to upgrade to WordPress 1.5.1.3
As for your second problem, I am skeptical that subscribe2 is causing this. subscribe2 does not do anything with posts in the blog display; nor does it do anything when you're not using the administrative interface. Are you future-dating your posts by chance? If you disable subscribe2, does this problem still occur? If so, then subscribe2 has nothing to do with it.
Well thank you for the prompt reply and effective fix! :-)
Upgrading didn't go quite as smoothly as I'd have liked, but I believe I have everything working again now, and yes, the conflict between the options for Category Visibility and subscribe2 has been fixed. Re the second problem - disabling subscribe2 did seem to fix the problem before upgrading, but now it all seems to work even with subscribe2 activated. I'm a happy bunny - thank you :-)

Hello Skippy,
Thanks so much for this plugin. It was working great until a few days ago when it simply stopped sending emails out.
Has anyone else found this problem?
Thanks.
Matthew: what changed between when it last worked, and now?
That is to say, did version 2.1.5 work for you at all? Or did it stop working when you installed 2.1.5?
Did you install any other plugins?
Did you make any other changes to your blog? Any changes?
In what does it not work. Can you subscribe and unsubscribe using subscribe.php?
My previous version of Subscribe2 worked, but then stopped about 3-4 posts ago. I thought the new version would fix that. It didnt.
I think the only plugin I installed since then was "Dates to Remember" and the new version of "Popularity Contest".
Other than that, I've been using K2 for a few weeks now.
And yes, I can sub/unsub to subscribe.php with no problems.
I also just noticed that one can subscribe, but I am having problems unsubscribing... This is the message I get:
"I already know about that email address."
When I try and unsubscribe (when confirming)
Hey Skippy,
Great plugin... Exactly what i have been looking for. However, I'm experiencing 2 problems:
1- I added some 10-15 subscribers (seperated by a new line). None of them have been notified about the blog (http://blog.maltese.net)
2- When someone subscribes, there is no email generated.
Any ideas?
TIA,
Chris
Chris: I was able to subscribe and unsubscribe from your blog; and I received both emails without problem. Do you have access to your web server's error log? If so, is there anything noteworthy in there?
Thanks for the prompt reply, Skippy. I tested with another 3 accounts; I only received a confirmation from one. Yet, when I look in the admin area, I see all of the addresses that I subscribed with. So, that tells me that, for the most part, it is working. As for the "mass subscription" I have no confirmations, only the one that I was actually able to respond to.
hmm...
I'm having a similar problem to Chris. I'm adding subscribers, and sending broadcast messages, but they aren't receiving them. Also, signing up (via link on right menu on home page) doesn't produce the expected email. Thoughts? I'm using WP 1.5.1.3, and your most recent plugin version, Subscribe2 2.1.5.
Eric
I should add that I've set up email accounts admin@emergingmedia.org and bozinny@emergingmedia.org, and have confirmed they are working.
When using the webforms to send emails, where are they being sent from? Where does your plugin pull the 'from' email address? Perhaps I have that entered incorrectly.
Eric
Eric: the FROM address used when sending admin mails is the email addess defined at Options -> General.
Are there any relevant entries in your error log? If you disable all other plugins, does Subscribe2 work?
Thanks for your response! All other plugins are disabled. Now, I'm a bit of a newbie, so where would I find the error log? What should I look for. I'm using the Cpanel utility.
Perhaps related, no password emails are being generating when registering as an additional user/author of my blog.
Hey Skippy,
I checked out the error log on the server and found nothing that poked my eye out. All appears normal.
Hello, your plugins are really very nice, but I have small problem. When I activate Subscribe2 and Backup plugin together and than I am trying to click to Subscribe button in Option menu I am still going to backup plugin. Thanks for you help.
I figured out the problem. My company was identifying the generated emails as spam. I had the domain whitelisted. End of problem.
IggY.TOP: see this comment, just above.
installed plugin on 1.5.1.3 WP. but the link to URI/subscribe.php does not generate the sign-up form as seen aka chris's site above. i've chmod 777 to subscribe.php which is in the root WP folder and subscribe2.php in wp-content/plugins folder.
ideas?
never mind, please disregard my last post skippy. Thanks!!!
Do you know of a way to marry your suscribe system with the wordpress user database, so that if you force everyone to register to comment, they can opt into the newsletter when they are registering?
I'm trying to see if I can marry your suscribe system with the wordpress login. So that if I have a blog that requires users to create a login to comment, they could click a button and suscribe to the email list at the same time. Any Ideas?
Kombiz: try this plugin. I haven't tried it myself, so I can't say how well it works.
Thanks, it works great, I'm trying to figure out a way to allow the user to opt into registaring for the emails without forcing them to be opted from the start. My PHP is weak, and I'll post this on Epper's blog but if you or anyone knows a quick workaround that would be great. Thanks for the quick reply, and thanks for the link.
I can't get the confirmation emails to be sent upon sbscribing. The page says it's sent but it never arrives. I tried a yahoo and my ISP addys. Not sure how to fix it. I use WP 1.5.1.3

Hi skippy, very useful and still very slim plugin. I have just one problem : I use the german translation and everything works fine (subscribe/unsubscribe/new subscriber mail/mass mail) but I don't get any mail when a new post is made ... any clue?
Skippy-
Great work on the plugin! I'm wondering if you can help me understand why the subscribe.php page does not display a background. Look at the page here: http://www.mkm1.com/wp/subscribe.php and compare it to my site's index (www.mkm1.com/wp) and you'll see the bug. Any thoughts?
Buzzdee: do any of your subscribers get email? Are there any relevant messages in either your web server error log or the mail server log?
Zach: yes, I see that there's a problem. Three column themes can be tricky, what with the nested divs. I can't help you, unfortunately. You'll need to adjust
subscribe.phpto use the same sequence of divs as is used by your index.php.I have tried moving the get sidebar.php to just above the get foot.php line, and all it does is move the sidebar below the e-mail form? how do I fix this? see here:
http://www.republicofm.com/subscribe.php
[...] 今天添加一个实现邮件订阅功能的插件subscribe2,效果挺不错的,推荐大家使用。 [...]
hmm, I'm still testing. If one of the other authors write an article, the email is sent correctly. I registered another email from me (no registered author) with the subscribe.php. It seems that the only no email is sent when I, the administrator, publish an article. Very odd.
is there anyway to put the subscribe form on my sidebar? thanks for the great plugin
Buzzdee: are you future-dating your posts by chance? subscribe2 will not send post notifications if the post's date/time is in the future.
isnaini: please see this comment (and several others on that page) for how to put the subscription form on your sidebar.
no, not future-dating (but it would be cool when subscribe2 would do that, cause I use the calender plugin
oh, the url didn't work. I meant his plugin : http://blog.firetree.net/2005/07/18/eventcalendar-30/
suggestion: for protected posts it would be fine to enhance subscribe to have the possibility for adding the password automatically in the mail.
another suggestion for enhancing subscribe: i´d like to prepare wp pages as newsletters and would find it usefull if subscribe could send the whole page (including header, sidebar etc.) as html by mail, not only the post/page.
jan: adding the password to protected posts might be tricky. You could probably include the password in the body of the post itself, and then subscribe2 would send it along in the email message. No changes necessary to subscribe2.
As for your other request, you could prepare the entire HTML layout inside Options -> Subscribe2, where you define what to send when a new post is made. Programmatically scraping your site and including that would be a lot of work for very little benefit.
I just can't get this nice plugin to work, I get an error message when I try to subscribe saying:
Warning: mail() [function.mail]: SMTP server response: 550 Sender address is invalid in C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\subscribe.php on line 239
Any ideas?
Awesome plugin. Just a couple questions. I'm running WP 1.5.1.3 using the BLIX theme. The default search function does not work from the following location:
http://mydomain.com/subscribe.php
It appends the above address as such:
http://mydomain.com/subscribe.php?s=searchterm
Whereas by default, from any other page location, the search function calls the following:
http://mydomain.com/index.php?s=searchterm
I suspect it may have something to do with the $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] call in header.php but I really don't have any idea what I'm talking about and therefore, calling upon your guidance.
Also, is there any "easy" way to modify the subscribe/unsubscribe form layout? CSS or otherwise?
Thanks again for all your work and anybody else who may have contributed to this plugin.
--SS
SeldomStatic: I haven't looked at how Blix does searching. I think you're probably correct to suspect the
$_SERVER['PHP_SELF'], though.subscribe.phpis kind of an anomoly in the WordPress templating world. It uses template elements (headers, sidebars, footers), but does not do so through the theme'sindex.phpfile.You can style the subscription form however you like. All the output lives between lines 78 and 105 in
subscribe.php.Hi -
I tried installing your plugin and it looks like subscribe.php format is broken. The mail form keeps printing out after my header and sidebar. Any ideas how to fix this? My theme is a modification of Wordpress 1.5.3 Default.
Andromeda: take a look here or here.
Hi Skippy,
"When posts are posted by XML-RPC, the publish_post and edit_post plugin hooks are appropriately fired."
I understood this fix ( http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/967 ) to mean that now posting from ecto would trigger the publish_post hook I thought was in Subscribe2. In my tests, no email is sent still when posting from ecto. Subscribe2 works fine when posting from WP.
According to you, is this supposed to work?
echo: as I read the changeset, it looks like the
publish_posthook should be triggered inside posts made via XMLRPC.Are you future-dating your posts in Ecto, by chance? Is the time set correctly on your workstation, and is that time the same as the time on your server?
I've never used Ecto, so I can't offer much support. You might try asking on the WordPress Support Forums, where other Ecto users might be able to troubleshoot.
Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear before I troubleshooted further, as I knew you would know that this is supposed to work.
[...] 今天添加一个实现邮件订阅功能的插件subscribe2,效果挺不错的,推荐大家使用。 [...]
stupid question, but how do i call the plugin? do i just add this to my page?
mike: the full instructions are available in the README.
thanks for directing me there...
can you hope me figure out why it's not pulling the page layout.
http://amytoons.com/blog/subscribe.php
thanks for the help.
mike: I think the problem has to do with the way the Connections theme breaks up the output. The page header, which defines the location of the stylesheet, is probably in
index.phpinstead ofheader.php.I don't provide support for template based problems; so you'll need to either look for support from the theme developer, or perhaps other users of the Connections theme.
Subscribe2 sends no email out at all.
Either to validate or to confirmed subscribers.
All other mail goes out from wordpress
Rich: are you sure the mail isn't being flagged as spam by the recipients? This has been the case more than once with complaints such as your's.
You may need to coordinate with your hosting provider, to find out what sorts of things they allow or reject in email messages. I'm unfortunately not in a position to be able to provide in-depth technical support for everyone's hosting services. Feel free to send me email with details from your host, if any, and I'll see what I can do.
I think the mail is clogged up. I am finally getting some messages after a few hours. But I have another question now. LOL
When the email is confirmed, the page just complaines that it doesn't recognize the email. It updates in the DB, but isn't there supposed to be a confirmation message on the subscribe.php page too?
Hi. Great plugin. I am administrator for a friend who's doing a weblog. I don't want to give him full rights to WP 'cause that would only be a pain for him. Is there any user level support for this plugin?
Just to let you know, it would be great to have some options for chuncking the email.. My provider is free but limit max to send 2000 emails/week and also cannot send more than 10 recipients at once.. So I had to hack the code to support this but would be great to make it generic so we can easily configure it
Thank you very much for your wonderful plugin - great work! I am using 2.1.4 and just wrote a new post. I have set the messages to HTML and in the email for the new post all the links are not clickable, besides the last one (permalink) on the end, which doesn't link correctly.
Any ideas?
Henjo: I'm not sure if I want to put user-level controls in. I've not seen enough evidence that there's a lot of interest or need for that.
Manu: at this time I have no plans to chunk delivery. If that's a feature you really need, you can look at using Bloglet to convert your RSS feed into an email on a schedule that you define.
Thomas Herold: Without seeing the message you sent, I don't really have any way to evaluate what's happening. Feel free to forward the post notification to me.
nice plugin. I'm having a problem with where it display on the page. It's below the sidebar. A look at the generated html shows two content id's. The first one is empty, then the sidebar, then this plugin's content. I'm not sure where the first one is coming from. (see it here if you like http://dmcireunion/courtyard/subscribe.php -scroll down to see the form).
I'm assuming subscribe.php isn't compatible with the ocadia theme I'm using. I'm too new to wordpress to understand the problem. Any ideas?
Hi, Skippy. First, thanks for writing this fantastic plugin. My fiance and I have been using WordPress to keep our more than 300 guests updated in advance of our wedding. A number of our guests requested some function that would let them know when something new is posted on the site. Your plugin seems just what the doctor ordered. The trouble is the form appears below the sidebar rather than next to it. I saw the comments at:
http://www.skippy.net/blog/2005/02/17/subscribe2/#comment-1778
and
http://www.skippy.net/blog/2005/02/17/subscribe2/#comment-1845
and I tried that but it didn't help. Instead, it moved the form above the sidebar. I then tried removing the call to the sidebar altogether and it had the same effect. What am I missing? The site is at:
http://www.ariellovesdana.com/wordpress/
and the issue I describe is at:
http://www.ariellovesdana.com/wordpress/subscribe.php
Thanks!
ArielZusya: Your subscribe.php looks fine to me. I guess you solved the problem?
Hi Skippy. I did solve the problem. It all boiled down to a CSS problem... got rid of your divs and replaced them with the divs in the theme I was using. Solved everything! Thanks again for the great plugin!
Hi, thanks for great plug-in.
Q: It is possible to change charset for outgoing emails without changing charser of the blog?
I have webpage on UTF-8 and it's ok, but emails sending with this charset are unreadable (without change charset in mailer soft) for polish users wich generaly use ISO-8859-2 ?
zabbo: you can edit the charset declaration inside
subscribe2.php; simply replaceget_bloginfo('charset')with the charset you want to use. Thanks skippy,
but it isn't work.
i change in subscribe2.php these 2 lines in that:
$headers .= 'Content-type: ' . et_bloginfo('html_type') . '; charset='. ISO-8859-2;$headers .= 'Content-type: text/plain; charset='. ISO-8859-2;it's correct? i hope not, because it's still send email in UTF-8. Sorry for my newbie question, but it's my first steps in php ;))
second question is about that when open link to subscribe.php my page is crashed. It is possible that the reason is in this plug-in or in template?
zabbo: Try this:
$headers .= 'Content-type: "text/plain"; charset="ISO-8859-2"';As for your
subscribe.phplooking as it does, I'm afraid you're on your own. I cannot provide support for every theme available. You'll need to figure out which<div>s to adjust. Are you aware that this plugin is NOT XHTML valid?
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A//www.skippy.net/blog/subscribe.php
Or just the plugin's errors only:
http://www.viper007bond.com/wordpress/subscribe.php
unfortunelly it's still send emails in utf-8 ;(
but thanks, for your help.
Viper007Bond: thanks for the heads-up. I've just checked in a correction to subscribe.php which will be included in the next release.
hmm, i dont know why but german translation for the new version dosent work ... i see still everything in english after copying mo & po files in the subscribe2 directory
igor: you placed the
subscribe2-de_DE.mofile into/wp-content/plugins/?Yes i placed it into plugins directory
Your subscribe2 plug-in has been fantastic! It's a dependable workhorse. My question is this -- would there be a way to combine your plug-in with the additional functionality of the mailing-list plug-in by http://gerard.ly.free.fr/ ?? Yours has been great and much more dependable than Gerards, but I do like the ability to also distribute a newsletter.
I don't know, maybe this is an enhancement request or (if this is inappropriate forgive me) would there be a fairly easy way to combine the code to add the functionality that I'm looking for? Or... is there another plug-in out there that works as a good newsletter manager?
Much thanks!
Skippy
For the last change I requested, all I had todo is change one line from 30 to 10 for the loop... would it be hard to put that in the config? you are already chunking for one provider anyway and it took me 5 mins to figure out where to change the code. But it could be useful for other people.
Thanks for the great plugin! I've been having troubles when notiftying people with GMAIL accounts. Everyone else seems to get notifited except them; is there something i'm missing? Please let me know when you can thanks!!
Adrian: if GMail addresses are not receiving messages, it's most likely that GMail is filtering the messages as spam.
Very helpful and useful script. Thank you so much.
I istalled 2.1.5 a few days ago. It sends out emails fine when I post manually, but when I post automatically, such as into the future, it fails to notify.
Also, the example of the new post fails to show in the email sent.
I use WP 1.5.1
Sincerely, Garnet
Garnet: future-dated posts do not generate notification emails. Can you please explain in more detail what you mean by "the example of the new post fails to show in the email sent"?
Yes, the excerpt of a new post is what I meant. There should be a little excerpt in the email. I left the email template as you offered it, which includes "excerpt" just below the title of the post.
Garnet: the "excerpt" relies on you actually creating an excerpt for the post in the "Advanced" post composition screen. The next version of subscribe2 will use the text before a
<--more-->tag (if any) if there's no manually defined excerpt.Got it. Thanks.
I don't know about what's possible, but could the next wonderful version of your script send emails for future auto posts?
Just curious, what happens differently when a post is published automatically as opposed to manually?
Garnet: The current WordPress process doesn't make it very easy for me to queue new post notifications. My WP-Cron plugin is an attempt to provide a delayed-action scheduler for WordPress. It mostly works, but it's still rough around the edges.
I'm trying to get better handling of future-dated posts integrated into the next version of WordPress, so that my WP-Cron plugin can better coordinate regular plugins (like subscribe2) that trigger on the "publish post" action. At this time, I have no idea when anything may come to fruition.
Thanks for the great plugin! I have weird problem. The registration of emails works fine it even sends emails out but all of them to my own email address. I made couple of the changes to the subscribe2.php and subscribe.php file but I don't think I messed up anything.
I also have problem when posting using ecto or pocket sharpMT. The emails are not send out at all. Thanks for any help. I use WP 1.5.2.
Pavel: without knowing what changes you made, I am unable to help. The outgoing emails should come from your email address, not be delivered to it.
As for XMLRPC posting, this was supposed to be fixed in WordPress 1.5.2. I don't do it, so I cannot confirm the fix. The only way subscribe2 will suppress notification delivery is if you future-date your posts.
hi skippy, I've just replaced the subscribe2.php and subscribe.php files with the original files (no any changes at this time) I downloaded from your site and I have the same problem. All outgoing emails are sent to my address. The confirmation emails are sent corectly to the addresses of registered people. Is it important where the subscribe.php file is? That are actually the only changes I made to the files. I just changed the urls. Thanks
Pavel: oh, you mean to say that when you post a new item, you get a notification email? That is the correct behaviour. The email is addressed to you, and the subscriber list will be added as BCC recipients.
So let say there is 200 subscribers. Does it mean I'm going to get 200 emails after I post new article? I guess so. That is fine but I'm still getting just some of the notification emails (I registered 5 of my emails) and they are all at same provider so all should work. Plus how do I change the charset UTF-8 to windows-1250? I tried this > $headers .= 'Content-type: ' . get_bloginfo('html_type') . '; charset=windows-1250';
Pavel: if you have 200 subscribers, you should receive only one notification email. The subscribers are all BCCed on that one message, to minimize strain on the webserver, and to let the mail server do what it's good at.
The one exception to this is if you're using Dreamhost, and have enabled the
$dreamhost = 1option, as described in both the documentation and at the top of subscribe2.php. If this is the case, then you will get one copy of the notification email for every 30 subscribers you have. So if you have 300 subscribers on Dreamhost, you'd get 10 copies of the post notification email.Hi! Skippy! Thanks for your Plugin!
The only bug or maybe weakness it has is not 100%-compability with UTF-8 encoding.
It appears when Subject line in message header have non-ASCII symbols. In this case this line must to be MIME-encoded this way:
Subject: Re: =?UTF-8?Q?=EF=CB=CF=CE=DE=C1=CE=C9=C5?=
or
Subject: =?UTF-8?B?xODt7fvlIO4g7e7i7uwg7+7r/Ofu4uDy5evl?=
?Q? is used for Quoted-printable and ?B? is for base64
Now it generates wrong (unreadable in most mail clients) Subject when subj is written in any "non-Latin" language (Russian, Hebrew or Chinese...)
Love your plugin.
I updated from 1. something and it went really smoothly. One problem, is that: Options>Subscriber2 shows up blank. I mean the admin menu bar is all still there, but there is no content from subscriber2 showing up.
anyideas?
Ariah: which version of WordPress are you using? If you're not using version 1.5.2, please upgrade.
It worked! thanks ;)
Is there a way to use subscribe2 with bbpress?
Miles: I don't know for sure; but I strongly doubt it. I haven't look at the bbPress internals, but they're likely quite different from WordPress; so subscribe2 wouldn't work without modification.
Bummer. Oh well, it would be nice to have an integrated mechanism.
Hi Chap - good looking plugin - trouble is my mail provider requires authentication and PHP mail() doesn't support it. Any tips? I notice pears mail library supports it but don't want to tweak your code really....
You could try using wpPHPmailer, which lets you speak raw SMTP as needed, rather than relying on PHP's
mail()function.You'll need to replace all instances of
mail()withwp_mail()inside subscribe2.php and subcribe.php, though, in order for wpPHPmailer to work. This is a change that will be included in subscribe2 version 2.1.6.I believe you have touched on this above, but I want to make sure I understand. I have a subscriber list of about 30 people so far, and I am one of the subscribers on the list. I post an update on the site, and I have yet to be notified about the update. I have tried this with only me as the subscriber and I get an email. It seems as if more than 1 breaks the mailer or is my ISP of comcast.net keeping me from sending email's to more than a certain amount of people? Comcast is the one I have set in the admin section email.
Thanks,
C
Clint: you'd need to ask your provider what limitations or restrictions (if any) they place on your outgoing email. There's no way I can speak with any authority about their configuration.
I still am not getting notified about updates to the website, I have the boxes for the other categories checked that I dont want emails sent on, and I even changed my admin email address to one with my host @trentstrek.com. I need your help skippy, this it really buggin me! hehe
Also, I have been informed that some people are getting the emails and some are not getting the emails. I know I am not, I know I have spam set to still send me all emails reguardless of spam or not and all emails get routed to my inbox and a seperate box for suspected spam. I have tried setting the 1 for dreamhost, that did nothing also. Is there a way I can contact you via phone. I will pay for the call with my dime. Thanks, C
Hi Skippy,
First, thanks for this great plug-in!
I was wodering why there is no such a feature that the subscriber could choose which of the categories to subsribe to...Could you add this probably some time?
Thanks,
Dennis
Dennis: to allow per-user subscriptions would require that I create a user management system, something which doesn't interest me at all. I don't want to futz around with storing per-user settings, and collecting recipients on a per-post basis depending on which categories are selected, etc etc.
If this is a feature you want, consider something like bloglet, which converts your RSS feeds into email notifications, and does support per-category subscriptions.
I was wondering if would consider adding a simple feature to this great plugin: a checkbox on the post page that can toggle the plugin on or off for a post before it is published. Not all the posts I make need to be sent to the mailing list, and I currently have to toggle it on and off using the plugin management screen.
Thanks
Tom
Tom: I'm not inclined to add more options to the post screen -- it's cluttered enough as it is. If you know in advance that you don't need or want update notifications generated for a post, the easiest solution is to simply disable subscribe2 before posting. You can disable and re-enable subscribe2 without problems. The subscriber list will remain intact, as will all your options.
Hi Skippy,
many thanks for your subscribe script it runs smoothly on my site.
I just have a question regarding the user level in the admin panel:
it seems that the subscribe option and the NL sending are just enabled for admin. I wonder if there is a way to have at least the NL sending and registered users handling for a level 5 user
Thanks
Stefano and agian great plug-in
stefano: you can edit subscribe2.php and change the "9" to whatever user level you want, around line 25.
Great Skippy it works.
Just one suggestion (I apologize to dare it):
Tough functions name are quite self-explanatory,this nice code should have more comments.
Thanks Again
Stefano
Love the plug-in!
I'm finding, though, that posts that I generate using w.Bloggar do not have emails sent out. If I post a draft using w.Bloggar, then go to my admin page and publish it, the email is generated - but not if I "publish" through w.Bloggar.
Any ideas on how to fix?
Thanks.
Charlie: the current version of WordPress (version 1.5.2) is supposed to resolve this problem. I don't use any remote posting tools, so I cannot confirm whether the problem is actually fixed or not. Please tell me which version of WordPress you're using.
Ciao Skyppy I am having a problem with drafts.
If I publish draft no message are sent.
I have to delete the draft and then publish it directly after edit.
Any work around ? but again for the rest it works great
Thanks Stefano
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm using 1.5.2 - just set the blog up a few weeks ago and downloaded the latest code.
(Of course, in some ways this problem actually solves another request - how to selectively send out emails. If I don't want an email sent out, I can just "Publish" it from w.Bloggar . . .)
is it possible, that the ecto + subscribe2 problem is a result of the wordpress implementation of the movabletypes xmlrpc-api?
there the xmlrpc call to mt.publishPost ends only in the action "edit_post" geting triggered...
after spending a little more time, i wonder if your plugin works whith any xmlrpc posting apps...
posting through ecto works this way:
----------------------------
1. sending "metaWeblog.newPost"
2. sending "metaWeblog.editPost" (after that call subscribe2 gets called, but doesnt send mail caus of check "if (isset($_POST['publish'])) { // we only want to send on publish"
3. sending "metaWeblog.getPost"
4. sending "mt.getPostCategories"
-------------------------------
so the 1st step doesnt trigger action publishpost, but the 2nd does... maybe you should change the "isset..." test at the end of subscribe2 function. but at this state of tiredness i don't want to figure out how ;)
hope you manage ti fix this problem.
btw: there's a 21 day trial of ecto on their website. you can use the "window->console" view to debug the xmlrpc calls... just echo something and ecto will complain about wrong xmlrpc data (and sometimes crash ;) )
cant wait to use your plugin!
thanks again!!
Hey Skippy,
Thank you for the great plugin.
If i might make a suggestion: for a complete integration with WP, what about making subscribe.php a Page. That way the template problems people experience would just vanish, and navbar menus would include the subscription page, with the permalink to the user's liking.
I tried to hack my way through this idea, making subscribe.php a page-template (after removing the call to include the wp-blog-header) and creating a page named Subscribe using the page-template. The displaying worked, but not the subscription confirmation system, because the ?x= parameter got cut out by the permalinks rewriting, so i quit trying it by myself (not a coder here).
I believe if you undertook this venture you would be opening a new avenue for devs, because most powerful plugins don't integrate like this (eg, subscribe to comments).
Another possible improvement would be to allow for subscribers' names, so a broadcast could say "hello NAME, blah blah..."
Keep up the good, and much needed, work!
eduardo: the problem with using a WordPress Page as you suggest is that it would look pretty ugly for people not using pretty permalinks: example.com/index.php/subscribe
And using a page does not alleviate the templating issues, since page.php is still required to call
get_header(),get_sidebar(), andget_footer().I will not be adding any kind of personalized content to the emails generated by subscribe2. To do so would require a separate mail transaction for each subscriber. The entire point of susbcribe2 is to blind carbon copy all subscribers. This does two things: First, it allows the mail server to do all the heavy lifting -- something for which it was specifically designed, and can do far better than Apache or PHP. Second, it allows bulk delivery to occur without revealing any subscriber info to other subscribers. Privacy is important.
Thank you for your reply, Skippy.
Oh yes, i just forgot the page needed all that, so used i got to just editing the insides of page templates. Sorry. On the other hand, plugin users could be instucted to do just that - duplicate the page template and fill in with the subscribe.php code. And the navbar menus would work right!
I see the point about personalized emails, so BCCs are lighter on the server than many individual messages?
And one more thought: now, if a user that has requested the subscription but is not yet confirmed requests it again, the plugin replies "i already know about that email" - this way the plugin is not accounting for someone who wants to subscribe but has lost the first confirmation email somehow. He just can't get a new one.
peace!
Love the plugin, but just learned by mistake that if I edit a story that's already been posted and save the changes, Subscribe2 sends out another email. Yikes! Is there a way to control when it sends?
Scott Ott, editor
www.ScrappleFace.com
Scott: subscribe2 ought not generate emails for updated posts. It should be specifically checking for the post action, and not the edit action.
Thanks for answering, Skippy.
Just to clarify: So, if I need to make some changes after the initial story is published, and under Advanced Editing, Post Status is set to Published...can I just hit the "Save" button immediately under the textbox that holds the body of my post, without fear that my 6,800+ subscribers will get a duplicate notification? (Because that's what I think I did, and it sent out email at least to me...I'm not sure it went out to the rest of the list.) I wonder if there's anyway to check that without being too smart?
Thanks,
Scott Ott
Scott: if you want to make absolutely sure, for your own piece of mind, that no duplicate messages get sent out, you can simply de-activate the plugin before editing your post. De-activation will not delete your subscriber list; nor will it change any of the options you've defined. After you save your edited post, re-activate the plugin.
Thanks, Skippy. Is that overkill? Do I just need to trust that if I hit save a second time it doesn't send a second time?
In any case, I'll follow your suggestion unless I hear differently.
Thanks,
Scott
Scott: line 18 of subscribe2.php is:
add_action ('publish_post', 'subscribe2', 8);Editing posts does not trigger the
publish_postaction, which means that editing a post should not cause subscribe2 to send any emails.Hi,
thanks for your excellent plugin. I have only a small problem. I configured it with "Send Email From: Blog Admin" option and add the variable "MYNAME" in the mail sent.
For a new post it is not the name of the author but the name of the admin of the blog that is sent.
I would like a mail to be sent from the admin but indicating that the author posted a new post.
Thanks!
Goulven
Goulven: that functionality is not currently supported, and it's unlikely that I will add it. The number of variables to place in the notification template are already numerous, and I don't think many people will have a need for this specific configuration (that is, the blog admin sends the email but displays the post author's name in the body of the message).
Skippy: thx for your answer. I just would like to be sure I understand. I thought the variable MYNAME was the name of the post's author? I then should be able to send a mail from the blog's admin with this message: "MYNAME just post ........."?
In my case, MYNAME is not replaced by the author but by the admin's name.
Skippy,
Continuing to enjoy your subscribe2 plugin. New question: How can I have bouncing (bad) email addresses directed to me, rather than my webhost? He's a nice guy, but with a list the size of mine (6,800+) addresses go bad at an alarming rate and I'm cluttering his inbox.
BTW, I'm also trying to find a way to rapidly delete subscribers without have to refresh the subscriber manage page for each one.
Thanks,
Scott
...and another thing...it appears that if I have the advanced editing panel open under an already-published story, and the Post Status is checked as "Published", then when I click the "Save" button, subscribe2 sends out another notification. I could be wrong about this, and I'm still trying to figure out how to close the advanced editing panel. But apparently I'm still sending out a notice everytime I make an edit to an existing story. I'd like to not do that if possible.
Thanks for your gracious help.
Scott Ott http://www.ScrappleFace.com/SF
Goulven: MYNAME is replaced by the name of whatever user is sending the message. If you select the admin account, then MYNAME will display the admin account's name.
Scott Ott: I highly recommend coffee2code's wpPHPmailer. This allows PHP to speak SMTP to a mail server, and use a specific "From:" value. To enjoy this, you'll need to upgrade to subscribe2 2.1.6.
Editing posts should not generate a new post notification. Until I have time to investigate this further, here's a way to avoid it: on your Advanced Edit screen, right-click the "Plugins" menu at the top of the screen. Select either "Open in New Window" or "Open in New Tab" (whichever your browser supports). In the new window/tab, disable subscribe2. Go back to your Advanced Edit window/tab, complete your edits and save them. When finished, go to your Plugins window/tab and re-activate subscribe2.
Scott Ott: with respect to mass-deletion, your best bet will be to go right to the SQL database. I don't currently have plans to add any sort of batch operation for deleting subscribers; nor do I plan on adding paged output soon. Your's is the largest subscriber list I know of using this plugin. Most users (by far!) have less than two hundred subscribers.
The text of the subscribe page appears way down at the bottom of my page.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark
http://www.HandicappedPets.com/wp
Mark: sorry, but I don't support theme or CSS issues. There are too many different themes available for me to reasonably be able to diagnose. If I were to provide assistance for each theme or CSS request, I'd never have any free time.
Your specific problem has been addressed several times. Check the comments on the other subscribe2 posts here. Basically, you have an unclosed div somewhere, and you need to find it.
where are the subscriber emails stored? Just so I ca back them up!
previous post refers to where on the server, rather than address via the interface.
Also - a note for those who have email problems - make sure under Options that the 'Anyone can Register " Option is checked.
Matt: subscribers are stored in your WordPress database, in the
prefix_suscribe2table, where prefix_ is the table prefix you defined in wp-config.php.Skippy! You rule! Thanks for the wonderful work of art, you should be proud!
The only issue I've been having is putting a form on the sidebar...
when the user puts in their email, and hits SUBMIT, it just goes to subscribe.php rather than process it :(
Any fix? I used the code you provided :
Or sign up to receive an email whenever a new post is made:
Your email:
Thanks! (and yes, I fixed the "s in there) A note for others that use the html above, you have to replace all the "s up there with normal "s (for some reason, when they're quoted, they turn into italicized "s) *shrug*
Imran: if you're using a POST form action, subscribe.php should receive the form elements and process them accordingly.
Hi Skippy,
Thanks for this great plugin. I have made some modifications to it that I thought you, or other visitors, might be interested in knowing about..
By default, the template for the subscribe pages are all defined within the "main" function in the subscribe.php file. However, I didn't want to have to redefine my entire wordpress template for this one plugin, and I wanted to add some flexibility for future template changes. So, I have modified subscribe.php quite a bit to allow me to just include it inside of a wordpress page, and have it inherit my standard wordpress template.
Specifically, after modifying subscribe.php, I was able to just create a wordpress page and inserted the following code inside of it:
I should note that in order to do this, one must have a plugin installed that lets you put php code inside of your wordpress pages; I am using the "PHP Exec" plugin.
If you are interested in incorporating this capability into a future release of this plugin, just let me know and I can email you my code. Alternatively, I was also considering just posting the modified 'subscribe.php' file on my website, with an explanation of the modifications and a link back to this page.
If you are interested, you can also see the email subscription in action. Let me know what you think!
I had a lot of trouble getting this plugin to work, but I finally did and it works nicely. :)
For some reason, it won't work with IIS's SMTP server (Windows's sendmail equivelent). It says that it needs a valid sender and is not a valid sender. Looking at the headers of the rejected e-mails in the badmail folder, it became apparent that Return-path was not defined (the headers contained "Return-path: ") I think Windows IIS SMTP wants a valid Return-path or else it won't send it. When WP sends an e-mail, IIS SMTP sends it successfully. I noticed that WP e-mails that go through have a valid return-path defined. So I think that is the problem.
Before I realized that was the problem, I installed PHPMailer to see if that would work, and it did, but for some reason HTML e-mails are sent with the wrong MIME type and the actual HTML code appears as plain text. And HTML posts e-mailed as plain text get messed up if you use bullets, horizonal lines, etc.
This is an issue since I was hoping to e-mail the entire post in the e-mail notifications. It's not so much of an issue for people who only send excerpts.
Any suggestions on how to fix the above problems?
I forgot to use character entities in the last post. To clarify, Subscribe2 is inserting "Return-path: <>" instead of including a valid e-mail address for the return-path. IIS SMTP rejects such mail as invalid and refused to send it. Hopefully the greater than and less than sign worked this time. :)
Scott: thanks! I'll add a Return-Path to the next version.
Thanks for a wonderful plugin, your work is much appreciated!
I have one request though: my site deals with a number of unrelated topics, so it would be useful if users could select the categories for which the wish to receive new updates when the register for Subscribe2. Otherwise the will receive all new posts about mountain biking or electronics when all they're interested in is Amateur Radio. Any chance you have some spare time left? :-)
- David
David: It is my intention to release a new version of subscribe2 to coincide with the release of WordPress 2.0. The new version of my plugin will hopefully allow registered users to subscribe to individual categories, as well as select HTML or plaintext delivery. Again, these features will only be available to registered users on your blog, and will not be available to the "general public". I have no timeframe in mind yet, as I've got plenty of other things going on. ;)
Got it installed and running, however it doesn't seem to be sending any mails of any sort. I can't get it to send a confirmation email to a new subscriber and I can't get it to send an update to any existing subscribers. I even tried the wp-phpmailer plugin to try and get it to work that way but still no luck. I'm using wp 1.5.2
Love the plug in! If you put up a paypal link I will send you money. Especially if you help me, neophyte that I am. I have the plugin set up on the sidebar. When you press send you are sent to a blank page with the sidebar smack in the middle. How do I just redirect the subscriber back to the main page or to a page that says something like thanks a lot check your email to complete the subscription process or whatever?
Joel: the
subscribe.phppage should inform the user that an email is on the way, which the reader will use to confirm their subscription. If you look down all the way at the bottom of the sidebar, you'll see the text. You may be able to resolve that problem by following the instructions here or here.
Feel free -- but not obligated -- to make a donation or purchase something from my wishlist.
I stumbled upon the Subscribe2 plugin on some WordPress related site, liked it, and downloaded and installed it. I can't figure out how to make a link to the subscribe.php file. Can someone tell me what to do?
This may be a silly question, but I installed the plugin, activated and everything worked nicely. But when I try to click on the link to the subscribe.php that I put in the sidebar I get an error that says: "No input file specified" Did I miss something?
CalistaWolf: I've not seen that error before, so I'm inclined to believe that you made a mistake somewhere. What's the link to the blog on which you're using subscribe2?
I love Subscribe2, and up to now it has been working perfectly. However I just wrote a future-dated post, and immediately received an e-mail notifying me about the post:
[following text clipped from e-mail:]
COGenBlog has posted a new item, 'January & February 2006 events'
You may view the latest post at
http://www.cogenblog.com/?p=35
[end of text clipped from e-mail]
Now the subscriber does get an error when he/she clicks on the link. Is this a bug, or have I missed an option somewhere?
Thanks.
Birdie: subscribe2 is supposed to skip future-dated posts. Starting at line 49 of subscribe2.php (version 2.1.6) reads:
// is this post's date set in the future? if ($postdata->post_date > current_time('mysql')) { // if so, let's not tell anyone about this return $post_ID; }Are there any plans to include subscribing to individual blog comments as well as the blog? ... or do I need to get the Subscribe to Comments plugin?
cheers
Nathan: at this time, I do not plan to include comments in the email delivery. Other plugins exist to solve this, and I don't feel like re-inventing the wheel. However, if someone presents a compelling argument to me, I'm willing to reconsider.
Hello!
Thanks for the plugin, but I have a problem:
Subscribing and confirming the subscription is no problem. I make for instance 5 subscribers. But if I publish a new post, no subscribers get notification, but myself as administrator I get 6 mails, announcing the new post. What could be wrong??
Thanks for your answer.
docdic: first, be sure to use the latest version of subscribe2. Second, try to use wpPHPmailer if you're having mail delivery problems. If you're still having problems, you'll need to tell me the versions of PHP and Apache, plus who your host is. Your host may be able to help troubleshoot some of your mail delivery problems, too.
Sorry to bother again. I tried wpPHPmailer a time ago but I could get it to work. On the other hand do you really think that mail delivery is the problem? Because when person X subscribes by subscribe2 X gets a nice confirmation mail and when X answers the adress of X get nicely from unconfirmed to confirmed subscriber. So mail gets through both ways. It's only the notification of a new post that is wrongly directed to myself as admin.
My server is Bluehost.com.
docdic: hosting providers do weird things. Confirmation emails are sent directly to the subscriber, as the TO: address. New post notifications are all delivered TO: the blog admin, but BCC: to all the recipients. If you have enabled the $dreamhost variable, then you will get one email for every 30 subscribers to your blog.
Me again! I have changed the $dreamhost variable to 1. Subscription still works, but notification gives 6 notifications tot admin and none to the subscriber!
Just wanted to let you know that I'm using your subscribe2 plugin on my blog, and it is great! Does exactly what I want, has a nice front-end interface and good admin controls too.
Thanks for your work!
Hi there,
I really like your plugin! And it was working great with WP 1.5, and stopped working when I upgraded to 2.0.
On the admin page in Options, there's this error under "Categories to Exclude"
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/.demie/pashmina/useful.simplicio.us/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2.php on line 407
Think there might be a quick fix?
Pashmina
Pashmina: if you've upgraded to WordPress 2.0, then you need subscribe2 2.2!
Hi, I'm getting several errors in the Subscribe2 options section :
Categories to Exclude
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /FULL_PATH/htdocs/blog_dir/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2.php on line 413
Then the submit button says : submit "submit" is that supposed to be like that, but any way after I press it to update the changes I get :
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: update_categories_cache() in /FULL_PATH/htdocs/blog_dir/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2.php on line 710
How can I fix it ? Thanks...
Joe: I suspect you're using WordPress 2.0 with subscribe2 2.1.x, right? If so, please see the comment immediately above your own.
Ha, :-) Must of scipt that one oh well, Thanks...
Skippy:
Great Plugin....really you did great on this, and I'm happy to see it work, and see you support it.
I feel like many of my folks aren't receiving my emails because of a particular spam filter that outlaws massive BCC on emails. Is there a way to have some sort of loop that with each new post, subscribe2 sends a series of emails to folks (in the TO field, not BCC), so each email goes to be individual, and not a large BCC?
Let me know what you think.
Thanks.
-v
Vasco: sending individual emails to subscribers is technically the correct way to provide mailing list functionality. Unfortunately, PHP is not the best tool for the job. If you have only a small collection of subscribers, it would work; but as your subscriber list increases so too does the time required to compose and hand off each message. After awhile, you're going to run into PHP timeout problems.
You could try my cat2email plugin, which basically does the same thing as subscribe2, but only delivers new post notifications to a single email address per category. The idea is that you set up a real mailing list (using GNU Mailman, or similar), and then use cat2email to post your new items to the list. The list software then manages delivery.
Wonderful plugin! Quick question: I regularly update old posts, but note that your plugin doesn't announce when posts are updated. Do you know if there is any way to "trick" the plugin into sending out another email when I update a post?
If not, do you know of any other plugin that sends out update notices when an old post has been updated?
Thanks!
Tina: no, subscribe2 only announces new posts. You could conceivably edit this plugin to remove that restriction, but it's not why this was created. I'm not aware of any plugin that announces edits in this way.
Just a wee note to say thank you for a great plugin! I'm using it a LOT and am really pleased with it :-)
I am using a relatively simple theme and the subscribe plugin breaks the page. Is there any way that I can trim everything from subscribe so that once someone clicks the link from my site, all they see is the signup section and perhaps the site header? I am more than willing to sacrifice overall looks for function, but the breakage is fairly severe at the moment.
Thanks!
Eric
Here's the live link:
http://oregonstate.edu/~stolleer/blog/subscribe.php
Thanks for the great plugin
Eric: I don't provide support for themes. Several comments on this and previous subscribe2 posts explain how to twiddle the confirmation page to play well with certain themes.
If you want to upgrade to WordPress 2.01, though, I think you'll find that the new version of subscribe2 is much better: I use the same technique as used by Ryan Duff's WordPress Contact Form to allow you to embed the subscription form on any post or page in your site.
I am getting the error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: update_categories_cache() in /home/***/public_html/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2.php on line 710
This happens on clicking the submit button on subscribe2.
Wordpress 2.0 users I am.
sunny: as mentioned above, you need to use subscribe2 2.2 or greater with WordPress 2.0.
hey skip, just wondering where we can view the list of subscribers. I'm not able to find it in the Options > Subscribe2. Thanks again!
courtney: the subscriber list is available at Manage->Subscribers.
hey hey...I'm using 2.2.0 and I dont have Subscribers under manage whereas, I did before with an earlier version...*whimper*
any ideas skip?
Courtney: if you're using subscribe2 2.2.0, you should be using WordPress 2.0 (and you should be commenting on the subscribe2 2.2.x announcement posts, rather than the older 2.1.5 post). If you're using subscribe2 2.1.5, then you should be using WordPress 1.5.x.
Yours is the first report I've heard that the "Subscribers" menu option is not available. Are you logged in as an administrator? subscribe2 2.2 uses the new capabilities system in WordPress 2.0, and requires you to have the "edit options" capability in order to manage subscribers and options.
Hi
Great plugin but im hitting a little snag with the category subscribe element of it.
This text:
"By subscribing to this service you will be notified every time a new post is added to the category(ies) you have chosen."
... suggests that the subscriber can choose which categories to subscribe to, but this feature doesnt seem to work.
I see an error message in the admin which says :
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in subscribe2.php on line 407
any idea how to fix this?
Thanks
gavin: are you using WordPress 2.0 or above? If so, please upgrade to subscribe2 2.2.2, the latest version. subscribe2 2.1.x is incompatible with WordPress 2.0.
Skippy, I need help. I installed the latest version of Subscribe 2 and am using the latest version of Wordpress. I uploaded the two files as outlined in read me file. I did edit the get sidebar () line so no sidebar is displayed but have made no other alterations.
Whenever I edit the options, and hit submit, I get a dashboard with a the body of the page blank white and a Done showing in my browser status bar. I have tried with both IE and Firefox and get the same thing.
The script works fine for me in all but two aspects. One being that the above editing of messages/options does not take effect (probably tied to getting the blank screen)
The second is that the MYNAME feature for me shows up blank. I tried to change this to BLOGNAME but got the above blank screen.
Any suggestions?
This happens on both websites I manage.
Steve
Hei!
I have a problem with the Subscribe2 under Settings in the admin menu. When I have edited the different email messages and push submit I only get a blank page. When I go into the subcribe2 menu again the email messages is not changed. What do I do wrong?
The same problem with Thor. I made a workaround: I modified the subscribe2.php where is function s2_reset() defined. I put there my values and on Settings page for Subscribe2 I hit "Reset". And all OK. Because if I modify and hit "Submit", I get a blank page as Thor.
Secondly, I had no email sent. I dig for hours, than on PHP.net website I found that someone wrote about MAIL() sending problems and recommend it to "force" the sender. So, in subscribe.php and subscribe2.php I put at the right place this line
ini_set ("sendmail_from","myemail@address.com");
and now is working perfect!
Skippy, great job! Now I have an excellent tool to broadcast news.
After hunting through the comments here, I found that somebody asked about the 501 errors using IIS. I too am having that problem and did not see a solution. Any ideas on how to fix this issue with IIS smtp?
Is there somewhere to find out how to make your plug-in be displayed in the sidebar.
Thanks
Hi Skippy - awesome plugin - many thanks and well done.
When I confirm my request to subscribe (via the the link in the email) the page it takes me too is broken (basically a mish mash of several pages combined in to one) - please see here... http://www.thechecks.net/test/wordpress?s2=1f8f67cf5d8725c85b9747f415d4b86c02
Any ideas or feedback greatly appreciated (apologies in advance if it's a problem with the way I've built my template).
Hey skippy,
nice plugin, but I just can't seem to be able to change the notification message settings anyhow - when going to the Options page, between "Exclude Categories" and "Submit" button I get this:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/bew/public_html/simbel/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2.php on line 407
and when I try to hit the submit button anyway to save the changes I get this:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: update_categories_cache() in /home/bew/public_html/simbel/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2.php on line 704
I got Wordpress 2.0.2
Any idea what might be wrong?
simbel: upgrade to version 2.2.2.
Ohh cheezes, now that was SO stupid of me :)
Sorry for the bothering and thanks heaps for such a quick answer! You're great.
hey skippy!!
great work!! this is what i have been looking for for a long time... :D
anyway... when i go to Options -> Subscribe2, i noticed this error under 'Categories to Exclude':
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/chrish/htdocs/haravata.net/blog/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2.php on line 413
what might it mean?
thanks!!
ok... it was late when i scrolled up that THERE is a newer version... donwloading that now...
thanks!!
Hey Skippy,
Just trying to set up your plug in (thanks for this, by the way) and had some problems. When I "submit" my e-mail address for subcription, I get a 404 File Not Found Page instead of some thank you.
I also noticed under categories to exclude on the Options>Subscribe2 tab in WordPress, I get the following:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/content/f/a/l/fallsman/html/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2.php on line 413
Then it has the submit button.
Here's the error I get when submitting:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: update_categories_cache() in /home/content/f/a/l/fallsman/html/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2.php on line 710
Just wondering what I've got set incorrectly.
Thanks again for your work!
Jason
Jason: scroll up in the comment list and you'll see others reporting the same problem. You'll also see my solution.
I feel like a complete idiot because the instructions seem so simple but I cannot get the suscribe.php to work.
You can see what happens by clicking the text link in the upper right hand corner of my journal, where it says: "Ignore this link for now". I am not too great at manipulating my wordpress but I have managed until this time, lol. Any ideas? Is it my theme?
I know you probably get frustrated with questions by complete novices but I promise I am not looking for someone to hold my hand, just a little advice, lol. Thanks so much for your time and for creating such a fantastic WP plug-in
Brandy
Skippy- First...great plugin. I've been using it for close to a year. Unfortunately, my hosting company (Powweb) was sold and the site migrated to the new host three weeks ago. Ever since then, Subscribe2 hasn't worked. Any ideas why since the new Powweb folks aren't sure?
Just a quick little question. On my password-protected posts, the excerpts from the posts are being sent along in the e-mail, and I really would rather they weren't. Is there anything I can do to change that?
