Surely the owner of this license plate has been touched by his noodly appendage. I was delighted to see such a proud display of Pastafarianism in my home town!
I submitted a sixty second film noir for the Gizmodo Laptop Confidential contest.
If the embedded player (below) doesn't work for you, click here to watch it at YouTube.
You can also download the original, in it's 26 megabyte MPEG-2 glory! Released under the terms of the CreativeCommons Attribution ShareAlike license.
For those that don't read Gizmodo regularly, I've included a handful of oblique references:
- I'm working on haiku because a previous Gizmodo contest required haiku entries.
- "Miss Nast" refers toConde Nast.
- The large photograph is Andrew Krucoff, who was fired from Conde Nast for leaking info.
- The "stack of JBs" refers to Gizmodo editor John Biggs, whose photo is on the bills (taken from the Gizmodo Portrait of the Reader as a Young Dork contest).
- The text at the top of the $50 bill reads "IN DORKS WE TRUST".
Thanks to my lovely wife Carina, for not only indulging me on this, but for helping as much as she did!
I hope you enjoy watching the film as much I enjoyed making it!
I don't usually do these memes, but Jennifer tagged me so I guess that's like an internet double dog dare, or something...
Four jobs that I’ve had
- lawnmower
- Dishwasher at a retirement home
- cashier at a grocery store
- electronics supervisor at OfficeMax
Four movies I can watch over and over
Four places I have lived
- Clintonville, Columbus, Ohio
- OSU Campus, Columbus, Ohio
- Lima, Ohio
- Clintonville, Columbus, Ohio
My parents live in the only house they've ever owned. I lived there, until I got my first apartment in college. I lived in a several apartments throughout my college career, until moving to Lima for a job. I lived there just under a year, after which I came back to Columbus. I rented an apartment in Clintonville before buying a house there. I really like Clintonville.
Four TV shows I like to watch
- Babylon 5
- Magnum, PI
- Nightcourt
- Beavis and Butthead
I generally don't watch television, though. Apart from Babylon 5, the list reflects shows that I would watch if they were available to me.
Four foods that I like
- Pad Thai
- clamari
- buffalo wings
- sushi
Four websites I visit daily
- My FeedOnFeeds installation
- Planet Debian
- Planet Ubuntu
I subscribe to a lot of feeds though, because I vastly prefer to read new items in my aggregator. I don't know why I haven't added either the Debian or Ubuntu planets to my aggregator yet.
Four things I want to do before I die
- Forgive everyone, including myself
- watch my kids grow up
- inspire someone
- travel around the world
Four people I’m tagging
Someone recently sent me an email, asking if I was aware that someone else was wrapping ads around all of my content and reposting it. I replied politely
- I know Ozh from IRC channel #wordpress, and he's a pretty friendly fellow. He's not a splogger.
- Several other WordPress aggregators exist which pull my content.
- All of my blog posts are explicitly licensed under a CC Attribution ShareAlike license (linked at the bottom of my site as "CC") which means folks are encouraged to use my material, provided they don't try to claim authorship of it.
I also share most of my flickr photos under the same license. After all, it's not doing me any good to restrict the use of any of this content. Indeed, by sharing my content, I'm (hopefully) creating value for other people.
Today, I discovered that my photo of Henry Rollins is being used on the Wikipedia entry for Henry Rollins! The photo detail page correctly lists me as the copyright owner.
Everyone wins: Wikipedia gets a decent photo of the man, and I get the personal satisfaction of knowing that I'm contributing to the overall value of Wikipedia!
I love using my aggregator to stay up-to-date with all the goings on at the various websites I read regularly. Unfortunately, many many websites cross-post the same items. I've recently begun reading Gizmodo (I went to high school with the editor!), and I've been increasingly annoyed at the number of items first posted there that then proliferate on to BoingBoing or Slashdot. Both BoingBoing and Slashdot have enough new content to make it worthwhile to continue to subscribe to them; but I really wish that this Web 2.0 craze would find some way to keep me from reading the same story on three different sites in my subscription list.
