Kill Your Television

published

I rarely watch television. I never watch television at home. Indeed, the only reason we have a television in our house is to watch videos we get from the public library or Netflix, or to play games on our GameCube. The kids only occasionally watch Saturday morning cartoons, and then we usually need to remind them that they’re on before they watch. As you might expect, we don’t remind them too much.

The only times I find myself watching television is when I go out to eat a meal, and there’s a tube somewhere. Surprisingly, I find myself paying more attention if the screen is across the room and I can’t hear what’s being said.

I was reminded today, while eating lunch, why I’m glad I don’t watch television on a regular basis. If I were exposed to commercials for Doggy Steps on a regular basis, I’m quite certain my brain would be mush.
