The Ultimate Anti-Spam Strategy

This comment was sitting in my moderation queue today:

It will reduce the volume of spam by 30-50% .In return Id like to ask you to put a link to my site on the index page of your site. The link will be small and your visitors will hardly notice it , its just done for higher rankings in search engines. Contact me icq removed or write me removed , i will give you my site url and you will give me yours if you are interested. thank you

Of course! ask the spammers politely to stop spamming us – it seems that 30% to 50% of the spammers are respectful enough to knock it off when you ask them.

Or, to combat comment spam, all we need to do is pollute our sites with links that game the search engines! So instead of crap filling up my moderation queue, I can have crap fill up my search results when looking for meaningful content online. That sounds great!
